I was totally bored with the monotonous gym workouts so switched over extensively on walking. But at the same time I wanted some better form of workout to tone muscles and lose weight. I stumbled upon Zumba in a group workout class. It was infectious with energy and the ability to make you believe that you, too, could dance like her if you just came to Zumba often enough. It was a blast—and a calorie-burner, too. I wore my heart rate monitor during classes and would routinely burn 400 to 600 calories every hour, depending on how much I put into the moves.
The first class I tried left a huge impression on me. i wished that someone had told me before about this. Today It would have looked and felt different.
Zumba Fitness is a Latin-inspired cardio-dance workout that uses music and choreographed steps to form a fitness party atmosphere. While many of the types of dance and music featured in the program are Latin American inspired, classes can also contain everything from jazz to African beats to country to hip-hop and pop. Zumba is truly for anyone who can stand up and shake their bootees. so if you enjoy music and dance Zumba is certainly for you.
Zumba sessions are typically about an hour long and the exercises include music with fast and slow rhythms, as well as resistance training. The music comes from the following dance styles: Cumbia, Salsa, Merengue, Mambo, Flamenco, Chachacha, Reggaeton, Soca, Samba, Hip-hop, Axé and Tango.
There are eight different types of classes for different levels of age and exertion.
Zumba Gold mainly targets the older population. It is specifically designed to the needs of the elderly and includes the same kind of music as the Zumba fitness party class.
Zumba Toning is for the people who do their workouts with toning sticks. Zumba Toning will target the abs, thighs, arms, and other muscles throughout the body. Zumba Toning is adding sculpting of body and cardio.
Aqua Zumba is Zumba in a swimming pool. The instructor is on the ledge of the pool instructing while participants mimic his/her moves while they are submerged waist high in water. Zumba in the circuit is the dance combined with circuit training. These classes usually last 30 minutes and features strength exercises on various stations in timed intervals.
ZumbaKids is a class designed for children between the ages of 4 and 12. It has the same dance and music styles as a regular Zumba Fitness class, but has routines designed specifically for kids.
Zumba Gold-Toning is a toning class for older participants with goals of improving one’s muscle strength, posture, mobility, and coordination.
Zumba Sentao is a chair workout that focuses on using body weight to strengthen and tone the body.
Zumba classes are generally an hour long. They begin with a dynamic warm-up and end with a cool down and some static stretching. The workout portion is broken down by song, each with a different dance routine. While many of the dance moves instructors use are pre-choreographed by Zumba, instructors often add their own flair, dance steps or even create an entirely new routine to their favorite songs. Common moves in class are mambas, V-steps with exaggerated hips, cha-cha-chas and side touches. Zumba uses different parts of the song, such as the chorus or a particular phrase or sound in the song, as the basis of its choreography. For example, in one class I took, each time the vocalist made a jiggling sound, we would wriggle our hips, or to the kissing sound we shake our upper body.
Zumba instructors don’t speak much. Instead they cue you on what to do with hand signals of which direction to move, or a loud hand clap that signifies that it’s time to move to a new move. Participants learn as they go through repetition and by example. It is frustrating for first-timers, but because Zumba uses a lot of the same songs over and over, you will get the hang of it after a few Zumba classes. Zumba is a great alternative to traditional fitness programs. It motivates you to get up and get moving with its signature Latin music beat. Implementing Latin rhythms can make working out more fun. The speed of the beat also lends itself to making you work out faster than you might do otherwise. This helps your heartbeat to get to its target rate more efficiently.
Zumba makes getting to your target heart rate much easier than standard workout routines. It does this by using songs that play around 145 beats per minute. This fast pace makes it seem natural to move around quickly. This will set you on the path to true aerobic exercise. If you are trying to build endurance, this is the best thing you can do for yourself. Exercising for prolonged periods at this rate can increase the strength of your heart. This level of training can also help to burn calories that are derived from fat. Zumba’s natural aerobic exercise pace is useful more for building endurance than it is for losing weight. If you want to eat more as part of your diet, Zumba can be very helpful, though. It burns more calories per minute, even if it doesn’t burn more fat per minute. Because Zumba’s music plays at a fast pace, moving to the beat of the music can start to build up your endurance after only a few workouts. It builds up your anaerobic endurance rather quickly.
This type of training is as intense as one should go without explicit direction from a physician. Overall, it’s most useful for helping to maintain a good cardiovascular respiratory system. It increases how much oxygen you can breathe during a high-intensity event. Many athletes train at this level for just this reason.
Calories burned at this level are even less efficient at burning fat. As little as 15 percent of calories burned through anaerobic exercise will come from fat. Thus, it should not necessarily be used as a weight-reducing exercise routine. It depends on what works for you. During a Zumba class, you engage a ton of muscles. Zumba doesn’t need any specific type of clothes. Clothes that are comfortable and breathable are advisable. sport a pair of supportive fitness shoes that allow you to pivot your feet easily. Bring a towel and a water bottle because you’ll need them. Most instructors give a short 30- to 60-second break between songs.
Zumba is one of the highest energy workouts I’ve tried, and it’s the most fun, too. Most of the time it really doesn’t feel like you’re working out at all—you just get caught up in the fun of the music and the moves. Before you know it, a whole heart-pumping hour has passed!
