Confusions of a Shopaholic

*”when I look into shop windows, I saw another world. A dreamy world full of perfect things; A world where grownup girls got what they wanted. They were beautiful, like fairies or princess”

Or do u remember this one,

*”moving to new York, I met guys and that kind of put things in perspective. ‘Cause you know that thing, when you see someone cute and he smiles, and your heart kind of goes like warm butter sliding down hot toast?’,  Well that’s what it’s like when I see store. Only it’s better. You see, a man will never love you or treat you as well as a store. If a man doesn’t fit, you can’t exchange him seven days later for a gorgeous cashmere sweater and a store always smells good. A store can awaken a lust for things you never even knew you needed. And when your fingers grasp those shiny, new bags…..”

confessions of a shopoholic

Sounds familiar with your condition, right?

If we are successful in buying the right stuff for us, nothing better than that but it could turn into a nightmare when everything fits wrong, or just looks wrong. And there it goes to the bottom of the closet which we will never wear and could not part with as we have just spent a bomb on it. Just because we liked something doesn’t mean it’s made of us. Prettiest of stuff would look bad on us and trust me it’s not because of that piece but it’s because of us. When we see those crisp shiny materials and color we sometimes tend to ignore is our body type. What kind of cut, fabric, color and patterns will suit us and a few basic dress styles and which style looks best on your figure.

STEP 1: KNOW YOUR BODY TYPE:

Trust me no body type is the perfect body type. And not everything will suit one body type. So no matter what body type you have, you can find the perfect dress for you and you would look mind blowing. Don’t you want that??

STEP 2: KNOW THE BASIC STYLES:

Before you hit the malls and spend money on wrong clothes do your homework. Identify your style and which style will be the best for you. It would enhance the USP of your body, making you look gorgeous

Column/Sheath:-

A sheath dress is a type of dress designed to fit close to the body, relatively unadorned. Unlike the shorter cocktail dress and the longer ballroom dress, a sheath dress typically falls around the knees or lower thighs. First Lady Michelle Obama and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge are both known for their wearing of sheath dresses. Some brands well known for their sheath dresses include Ralph Lauren, Prada, and Marc Jacobs.

Body Types: They look good on hour glass figure. As they highlight the best features of the hour glass perfectly. But pear shaped figure can also wear them but they have to balance the top and the bottom by adding a wrap, stole, scarf or short cardigan to the top. And if you have a column in two colours then see to that the lighter shade is on the top .If there is some texture or styling effects done around the bust. The ruler figure can try it with some touches as the pear shape.

Body Type Styles

Wrap Dress:-

A wrap dress is a dress with a front closure formed by wrapping one side across the other, and knotting the attached ties that wrap around the back at the waist or fastening buttons. This forms a V-shaped neckline and hugs a woman’s curves. A faux wrap dress resembles this design, except that it comes already fastened together with no opening in front, but instead is slipped on over the head. A wrap top is a woman’s top cut and constructed in the same way as a wrap dress, but without a skirt.

Body Types: This is like a magical wand one style fits all. Only thing is you should be careful what you pick. For an hourglass figure you need to find a dress which is wrapped around your waistline no false waistline is being created by the dress. This will give your small waist a good shape and would enhance your figure. Pear and Apple Shaped women should look for a dress which wraps on your bust and creates a waistline right under it. It enhances your bust and gives a good shape to your body with a skirt that flows out from the waist to minimize the hips and rear. If you have a ruler figure see to it that your wrap dress has alto for emphasis on.

Maxi Dress:-

A maxi dress is a long dress. Maxi dresses have hundreds of different designs; they can come in tartan, stripes, polka dots, floral patterns, and solid colours. Since maxi dresses generally have stretchy fabric around the midsection, many celebrities, like Blake Lively and Nicole Richie have worn maxi dresses to the red carpet. The muumuu is one style of the maxi dress. It has an empire waistline to it

Body Types: This dress is made for the ruler figure. This enhances the long willowy figure of the ruler type. Apple and pear shapes can wear this style of dress but need to be very cautious about the cut of the dress. They should pick a dress which cuts between the bust and waistline and then flows outward. Hour glass figures can wear this dress but it does not highlight their shape and can make them look little fat as it is too flowy. Hour glasses should look for dresses in this style that have skirts fitting closer to their silhouette.

Baby Doll Dress:-

A baby doll is a short, sometimes sleeveless, loose-fitting nightgown or negligee intended as nightwear for women. It sometimes has formed cups called a bralette for cleavage with an attached, loose-fitting skirt falling in length usually between the upper thigh and the belly button. The garment is often trimmed with lace, ruffles, appliques, marabou fur, bows, and ribbons, optionally with spaghetti straps. Sometimes it is made of sheer or translucent fabric like nylon or chiffon or silk.

Body Type: Can be worn by all body types with the right waist and length. Apple figures should go for below the bust waistline with a flowing skirt till knee. Pear figures need to look for baby doll dresses with some kind of work, or pattern in the neckline area. Something done across the bust and the length should be just at the knee or slightly below. Hour glass figures should have their natural waistlines enhanced. They can get away with a shorter length. Ruler figures is the best for this type of dresses .Just keep in mind that the top should have some work, or detailing done to it. The length of the dress is according to one’s wish in this dress type.

Suit Dress/Lounge:-

Lounge/Suit dress is something that you can wear if you want to   look professional, but not dressy. A nice pant suit; a pair of dress pants or a skirt and a blouse; It is a conservative style of dressing but is very feminine. You can wear it to formal parties, weddings, lunches etc.

Body Type: All body type can look great in suit dress. But it looks best on Apple figure. Go for a suit which is has three buttoned jacket and it should drop in at the waist. If you have a Pear figure go for a jacket that is short till waist and well-fitted. Rulers can also go for the same theory as this would make their upper body bulky and give them the right shape. Hour glass figures should avoid long jackets. A jacket with close fitting and shorter in length would be good.

STEP 3: DRESSING IN BODYCON

Bodycon is short for “body conscious”. You can have varied variety of styles in this category right from skintight pencil skirts (or bodycon skirts) to figure-hugging dresses and even form-fitting high-waist jeans, the body-con silhouette will have you showing off your shape. But how do you wear it? Will it be flattering?

Tips for wearing bodycon:

  • The thought of tight, figure-hugging clothing probably makes you uncomfortable but don’t you worry as bodycon pieces are actually pretty flattering and they suck you in, smoothing out your shape.
  • Now that you know your figure type it’s a good idea to understand what your asset is and what you should hide. If you have a ruler shape body then you should go for a combination of two different textures for the bust and hip. Like you can go for a fitted shirt with a short skirt that will give you a curvier look. Body cons would be a great option for a night at the club, but not for every day! For normal wear, it’s best to decide what assets to flaunt and cover the rest.
  • If you are not confident about your curves go for dark coloured body cons. Black, dark gray, brown, navy, purples and reds.
  • Still if u feel, conscious team your bodycon with boyfriend blazers, or jean jackets. Go for flats rather than the heels so that you don’t stand out. Your accessories can help you to remove the attention from your bust area.
